SEREMBAN: More mosques in the state will enjoy free wireless internet (Wifi) facilities as part of the initiative taken by the state government to attract more young people to the religious institution.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the state government had also allowed telco companies to use mosque towers to install telecommunication transmitters provided that the mosque and the surrounding areas were provided with free Wifi facilities.
“Times have changed. We want people from all walks of life, especially the younger generation and our children to utilise mosque not only to perform prayers, but also as a centre for their learning activities.
“In today’s scenario where we live in both reality and cyber world, the use of the internet is very important, especially for young people who rely a lot on the facility. With the availability of free Wifi at the mosque, I believe it will draw the interest of young people to the premises,” he said.
He said the Muslim community needed to re-live the 'spirit' of the mosque as the first institution built by the Prophet Muhammad when he migrated from Mecca to Medina.
“To instill love towards this sacred institution, it must be nurtured from young. We want more young people to appreciate the mosque institution and together we enliven it,” he said during his speech at the launch of Ibnu Khaldun mosque at Lavender Heights Senawang here today.
Also present were Negri Sembilan mufti Datuk Mohd Yusof Ahmad and Paroi assemblyman Mohd Ghazali Wahid.
At the event, Mohamad also delivered RM10,000 donation to the mosque before performing Friday prayers with more than 300 people.
