KUALA LUMPUR: Is crispy chicken rendang even possible? Well, it would seem that netizens would be more than happy if KFC gives it a try.
The fast-food chain has joined the bandwagon in admiration for former MasterChef UK contestant Zaleha Kadir Olpin.
In a Facebook post, KFC posted the image of a bucket of fried chicken with the caption ‘Not rendang’.
“The only thing that should be crispy is our fried chicken. Kudos, MasterChef Zaleha!” said KFC, who was quick to tap into the idea of crispy.
The posting has tongues wagging among netizens, who are hoping that KFC can come up with a rendang-flavoured variation.
Many suggested that such a crispy rendang fried chicken would give KFC an edge over its competitors.
Others said they will send the crispy rendang fried chicken to MasterChef UK judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace if KFC really comes up with the dish.
“The skin wasn’t crispy”, “the meat didn’t fall off the bone” – those were the main sore points by the two judges who didn’t quite take to Zaleha’s chicken rendang.
Some suggested that now is the best time for KFC to introduce the new flavour as Hari Raya is not too far off.
As of this writing, the posting was shared 6,443 times with more than 900 comments.
The crispy chicken rendang row has united Malaysians from all walks of life said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
Even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has weighed in over the issue.
He took to Facebook to poke fun at the situation, saying: “Mana ada orang makan rendang ayam crispy (Who eats crispy rendang ayam)?”
