KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project has received the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval from the Department of Environment (DOE) on April 2 marking another milestone for MyHSR Corp.
The EIA report is a requirement under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, which identify, predict and evaluate the impact of the multi billion HSR project on the environment.
The strategic project between the government of Malaysia and Singapore aims to facilitate a 90-minute travel between both countries.
The project is expected to enhance business linkages and bridge the distance between both countries.
The EIA report identifies and proposes mitigation measures to manage the impact during construction and throughout operational stages.
The report submitted to the DOE was approved with conditions to be complied during construction and operational phases of the HSR project.
The report approval marks a significant development which will pave the way forward for the project, said MyHSR chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal.
“We have developed the necessary measures to address and minimise the potential environmental impact throughout the life-cycle of the project, which consist of pre-construction, during construction and operations.”
He added that they were grateful for all the support and cooperation received from all stakeholders during this period.
