JAKARTA: Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim has urged an Indonesian newspaper, The Jakarta Post to stop peddling lies on the Malaysian democracy, noting that Malaysia has enjoyed more than 60 years of peace and prosperity under the Westminster system of parliamentary government.
"I refer to The Jakarta Post entitled ‘Truly ASEAN’ dated April 10, 2018. While it was intended to sell the news, rather than to feed the truth, the writing was infested with falsehood and unsubstantiated accusations that were degrading to Malaysia's democracy, particularly its people," he said.
Zahrain said Malaysia had gone through 13 elections successfully, adding “it has been working extremely well for our country and we intend to preserve this.”
"Foreign election management bodies, including representatives from Indonesia's Komisi Pemilihan Umum (Election Commission of Indonesia) are invited as observers to our elections.
"Through free and fair elections, voters are able to elect their members of parliament without fear or favour.
“Ultimately, whoever commands the confidence of the parliament will be appointed prime minister and invited to form the government.
"My advice to the writer (of the editorial in The Jakarta Post), please stop peddling lies," said Zahrain. -- BERNAMA
