Penang sand artist creates GE14-themed sculpture to encourage voting [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: It might look easy to some but to create art out of sand requires a lot of patience and attention.

This was what Penangite, Mohammad Ikhwan Ibrahim, 28, went through when he created a 14th General Election-themed sand sculpture yesterday.

The sand artist said it took him a about eight hours to finish his "masterpiece", which featured a hand casting a vote, on the beach of Batu Feringghi.

"I started at 8am and and finished around 4pm.

"This sand art, which also has the word 'Your Vote Matters' at the bottom, is to remind registered voters to fulfill their responsibility on May 9.

"We need to vote because every vote will determine the future of the country," he said.

Ikhwan said he got the idea to create the sand sculpture last week.

"Usually, this type of sculpture is done in groups but I prefer to do it alone.

"It took quite a while, but overall I am satisfied with the result." said the self taught sand artist, who is also a Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) student.
