PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he has no knowledge on the raid that took place at the residence of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“I did not get the information (on Najib’s house raid)," he said at a press conference held at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) headquarters, here, today.
Dr Mahathir informed that he was not aware the raid would be conducted at night.
Police searched Najib's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta in Kuala Lumpur last night from 10pm until early this morning.
Dr Mahathir said the police have strong reason to hold their search at Najib's Taman Duta residence as well as his apartment at the Pavilion Residence in Kuala Lumpur.
“The police have their own standard operating procedure over the search conducted.
“My instruction is very clear, not to torture people but treat them decently,” Dr Mahathir said.
Dr Mahathir also stressed that the government will call for investigations on all criminal cases, regardless of the person.
Earlier, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, Datuk Seri Amar Singh confirmed the search Najib's residence.
Amar Singh said that the operation was focused on searching for items.
Najib’s lawyer, Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal, when met at the site earlier, said the police confiscated handbags, clothes, and gifts as evidence.
