Not our ethic and culture: Palestinian envoy expresses regret over disturbance

KUALA LUMPUR: The Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali expressed deep regret over the commotion involving Palestinians at Wisma Transit (WTKL) yesterday.

Earlier today, the Malaysian Armed Forces confirmed that there was a commotion at the complex, which reportedly stemmed from their request for expedited processing of applications to return to Palestine.

The incident, which began at 5pm, was peacefully resolved by 7.30pm.

"I am really sad about what happened. This is not our ethics and against our culture," Walid said when reached by the New Straits Times.

He stated that the behaviour was not reflective of Palestinian values, highlighting a commitment to respecting their host country.

The ambassador said that the embassy and the Malaysian government were currently collaborating to address the matter and provide the necessary assistance.

In October, a video recording of a Palestinian woman causing a disturbance and damaging public property at WTKL went viral on social media before she later issued an apology.

The individual was part of a group of 127 Palestinian civilians injured and brought to Malaysia on Aug 16 last year to receive medical treatment following Israel's attack on Gaza.

On Aug 4, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the Palestine Solidarity Assembly in Bukit Jalil, announced that Malaysia planned to accept injured Palestinian civilians for treatment in Malaysia.

Two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Airbus A-400M aircraft subsequently flew in 127 injured Palestinian civilians from Egypt to the RMAF Subang Air Base in Selangor on Aug 16.
