PEKAN: Excitement was written on the faces of children from the villages in Sungai Miang, here today when they had the rare opportunity to break fast with the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at the Territorial Army Regiment 505 camp here.
The children also received duit raya from Tengku Abdullah and his consort Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah who personally handed the packets to the children.
The children, along with their parents, were later treated to a variety of dishes for breaking of fast prepared by the staff from the camp.
Muhammad Saiful Amin, 8, was all smiles as he joined his friends in the queue to receive the duit raya from Tengku Abdullah.
Saiful, who lives opposite the camp, said he was thrilled with the opportunity to enter the camp premises.
“Many of my friends were invited for the event today and I received my first duit raya this year from the ruler (Tengku Abdullah). I hope that the camp will organise similar break fast events next year,” he said as he ran towards his friends who were leaving the premises.
Tengku Abdullah who was joined by Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, later performed his maghrib prayers at the surau in the camp.
Earlier, he handed out assistance and duit raya along with food items to some 150 less fortunate children and the elderly which also included soldiers.
