KUANTAN: The construction of the RM2 billion Kuantan Maritime Hub marks a significant leap forward in strengthening Malaysia's maritime industry, particularly in Pahang.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail hailed the comprehensive maritime project not only as a key development initiative but also as a beacon of progress and hope for the future.
"This hub will become a central hub for maritime activities, fostering various commercial and industrial ventures that will greatly impact both the local and national economy," he said during the groundbreaking ceremony held in the Gebeng sub-district here today.
Wan Rosdy said that the maritime hub would generate numerous opportunities for industry players and significantly enhance the sector's growth.
"The presence of the hub will help create a robust and dynamic ecosystem, positioning Pahang as a major player in the nation's maritime industry," he added.
Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd Managing Director Mac Ngan Boon said that the hub would be developed on a 202-hectare site, including reclaimed land, with plans to apply for an additional 500 acres.
Construction is set to commence this year and is expected to continue in phases until 2034.
Once fully operational, the hub is projected to create approximately 30,000 new jobs.
"This development will lay the groundwork for supporting Malaysia's national defence vision and advancing our maritime interests and aspirations. The hub will bolster industries related to oil and gas, commercial shipbuilding, ship repairs, and the defence sector," he said.
