Robert Kuok makes first appearance at Council of Eminent Persons meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: Business tycoon Robert Kuok, who was appointed to the Council of Eminent Persons, made his first appearance at the council’s meeting with government-linked companies and government agencies, on Tuesday.

The meeting, chaired by former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, focused on the abolition of toll charges, fuel subsidies, investment, tax, economy as well as the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

In previous meetings, Kuok, 94, who is based in Hong Kong, was represented by PBB Group Bhd chairman, Tan Sri Oh Siew Nam.

Apart from Daim, other Council of Eminent Persons members include former Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz; ex-Petronas president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Hassan Merican, and economist Prof Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram.

Meanwhile, Customs director-general Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy was among the senior government officials present.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh, declined to elaborate on the meeting after exiting Menara Ilham around 12.10pm.
