Robert Kuok salutes Dr M for saving the country

PUTRAJAYA: Billionaire tycoon Robert Kuok raised his hand in salute to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for saving the country.

In a short video uploaded on Facebook by Kelab Chedet, Kuok was heard saying, ”..I salute. You saved the country. Of course with Daim’s help,” in reference to former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, who is now a member of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP).

To this Dr Mahathir first laughed and then replied, “but I need your help now.”

The 94 year-old billionaire saluted Dr Mahathir while expressing the sentiments in a meeting at Perdana Putra, Putrajaya.

Kuok, who resides in Hong Kong, attended his first meeting with the CEP today. He was named as one of the five members in the CEP on May 12.

Pictures of Kuok holding hands and hugging the 80-year-old Daim have since gone viral on social media and subsequently splashed on the cover of local newspapers.

Headed by Daim, other members of the CEP are former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas CEO Tan Sri Hassan Marican and renowned economist Prof Jomo Kwame Sundaram.
