KD Lekiu sails to Hawaii for RIMPAC exercise

LUMUT: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will be participating in the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise known as Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018 in Hawaii, U.S. from June 27.

Western Armada Commander Vice Admiral Datuk Seri Mohamad Roslan Mohamad Ramli said RMN’s involvement in the exercise conducted by the US Navy would empower the personnel and assets of RMN in terms of military strategy and preparedness.

“This is the first time RMN is involved in this prestigious world standard exercise which would be an excellent platform to test the resilience and preparedness of RMN assets.

“This included human resource and logistics management apart from expanding knowledge in various aspects,” he told reporters after officiating the departure of KD Lekiu to RIMPAC 2018 as well as a Fleet Review in conjunction with the retreat of the Western Armada Commander at the RMN base here today.

The KD Lekiu with 150 personnel onboard commenced sailing 6,628 nautical miles and was expected to arrive in Hawaii on June 25 to join the exercise until July 29 before returning home on Aug 3. -- BERNAMA
