KAJANG: The Home Ministry will seek the help of the Indonesian authorities to track down 'missing' Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, who was believed to have slipped into the country.
Its Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Jamal should own up and surrender himself, when asked about the man's request for protection, featured in a video yesterday.
"What sort of protection? He knows he has done wrong and ran away. I will ask the Inspector General of Police (Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun) to look for him."
"It has been said that he is in Indonesia, we will ask for cooperation from the police there to assist in locating his whereabouts and bring him back. As for his offences, we will leave it to the police to handle it in accordance to the law," he said, when met after the Terawih prayers at Kajang Prison's mosque tonight.
Jamal was arrested last week and placed under custody for allegedly displaying a firearm in pictures which went viral on social media websites.
On May 25, he went missing from Ampang Putri Hospital where he was being treated for a back problem.
He was also charged with causing a public nuisance at the Selangor state secretariat building where he had smashed crates of beer with a sledgehammer.
After a period of being incommunicado, he promised to appear at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters to complete his bail process – but was a no-show.
Instead, he posted a seven-minute video of himself – in what appears to be an oil palm plantation – asking for protection from Muhyiddin.
