PUTRAJAYA: Government officers are no longer allowed to hold more than five positions in government-linked companies.
In issuing the latest directive which aimed at improving governance, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said officers were not encouraged to hold “between two and three” positions, but such a situation could not be avoided.
Dr Mahathir also revealed that an officer was discovered to have held a whopping 68 positions in various GLCs, and such an incident necessitated the reduction.
“We will reduce to not more than five positions at a time. We do not even encourage officers to hold two to three more positions, but sometimes it is unavoidable,” Dr Mahathir told a Press conference after chairing Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption meeting today.
At the same time, Dr Mahathir said all ministers, their deputies and political secretaries were required to declare their assets that would later be reported to the prime minister.
“The information received would be relayed to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. The prime minister cannot hide information on government members and administration officers."
