Education Ministry allocates RM500,000 to fix storm-damaged SMK Seri Pantai [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has allocated about RM500,000 to repair 10 classrooms at SMK Seri Pantai, damaged following a heavy storm yesterday.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Gazali Abas said the ministry and Public Works Department will assess the damages within two weeks and come up with a report on the damages and recommendations for repairs.

Strong wind and heavy downpour, which hit the Klang Valley, had reportedly blown off the roofs of the 10 classrooms yesterday.

"The Ministry hopes the matter will be addressed immediately and that the classrooms will be fit for use after three months," he said, adding that 30 computers in the classrooms were also damaged in the incident.

Gazali said the repair works will not affect the normal school operations.

“The affected classrooms were occupied by 300 Form 3 students. They will, for the time being, use the science and computer labs,"

He said parents need not worry about the matter and can continue to send their children to the school, which is expected to resume on Monday, after the Hari Raya and school break.

Also present was Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil who welcomed all kinds of contributions from the community to assist the school.
