Selangor Sultan joins 50,000 people at MB's Aidilfitri open house

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharifuddin Idris Shah and his consort, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin graced the state’s Menteri Besar Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here this morning.

Also present was Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

Their 11.30am arrival at the venue – Padang B, Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam – was marked by the sounds of ‘kompang’ (traditional Malay drums), as well as the cheers of 50,000 members of the public who had joined the celebration.

The Royal entourage was welcomed by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the PKR and Pakatan Harapan president.

The event kick-started at 10am and is expected to end at 3pm.

The Selangor ruler, along with Wan Azizah and Amirudin, took the opportunity to meet with the rakyat at the event themed “Kesatuan Hati Kemenangan Diinsafi.”

Amirudin, who is also the Sungai Tua assemblyman, is scheduled to deliver a speech at the open house, which is his first since he took office on June 20.

Among the guests are members of underprivileged communities invited by the state Welfare Department.

Also present are VIPS, members of the state executive committee and senior state government officials.

An array of Raya delicacies are being served, including Aidilfitri must-haves such as satay, lemang and a variety of kuih at some 45 stalls.
