SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari yesterday provided an explanation the challenges faced by the authorities in exposing Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) and their activities in Selangor.
According to the briefing he received on the case, Amirudin stated that the authorities faced difficulties in obtaining details on the alleged embezzlement within GISB.
In the past, he said, GISB was registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS) which meant they could be monitored.
"Now they register as a business and this is not something which could be monitored, unlike organisations under the RoS.
"They also confine their activities to family members and this makes it harder for us to obtain details of their wrongdoings," he said after officiating a dialogue for the 2025 Selangor Budget here.
On a related matter, Amirudin said he would brief the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, on updates regarding the GISB issue yesterday.
Amirudin said that Sultan Sharafuddin, who is the head of Islam in Selangor, granted him an audience yesterday evening.
"His Royal Highness has already summoned the police, Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) several days ago," he said.
"We are taking aggressive measures (on the GISB issue)," he said, adding he had a lot to update Sultan Sharafuddin.
On Saturday, Sultan Sharafuddin ordered the closure of all unregistered welfare homes and Islamic schools in Selangor under GISBH.
He also expressed "regret" and "disappointment" that religious authorities did not act against GISBH sooner.
