KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said the statement by the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) task force yesterday missed out on the word 'MACC' in confirming the arrest of former Premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The statement which said 'the 1MDB task force confirms the arrest of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak' should have read 'the 1MDB task force confirms that MACC has arrested Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak'.
This matter was clarified today by the commission's chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull.
"It is a non-issue. The word 'MACC' was inadvertently left out, that's all," Mohd Shukri told NST today.
The statement yesterday also informed Najib would be charged today.
The Malaysian Bar had criticised the statement, saying that the task force had no authority to decide if Najib was to be charged or when he would be charged.
