Agong urges all parties to set aside political differences

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has urged all parties to set aside their political differences for the betterment of the people and the country.

“All parties should find a common ground by working together for the prosperity and survival of the country,” said Sultan Muhammad V during his opening address at the first meeting of the 14th Parliament session today.

His Majesty stated that as the people has chosen; all parties must work together with sincerity and in solidarity.

Thoughts he said are easily formed by media reports that are laden with sensationalism and speculation.

He said that the people have proven false the notion that multiple races, religion and cultures in the nation would spark conflict that jeopardise the peace and stability of the country.

“Negative elements that affect the unity and harmony need to be curbed. Stop raising sensitive issues among the races.

“I welcome the proposal for the creation of a people’s harmony consultative council so that more effective programmes are made to promote unity,” he said.

The Agong also welcomed the government’s approach in enforcing transparency especially in the disclosure of country’s financial state as well as the initiative to study and manage the country’s expenditure on all projects.
