Johari leads Parliament in paying tribute to late Daim

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, on behalf of all members of Parliament, extended his condolences to the family of Tun Daim Zainuddin in Parliament today.

Presiding over the afternoon session of Dewan Rakyat, Johari expressed his hope that Daim's family remains strong during this difficult time.

"With deep sorrow, I announce that Tun Daim Zainuddin, former Member of Parliament for Kuala Muda and Merbok, as well as a former federal government official, has returned to Rahmatullah (mercy of Allah) today.

"On behalf of the members of Parliament and the entire Dewan Rakyat, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to Daim's family.

"May his family be granted strength in this challenging time. We pray that Allah bestows His mercy upon him and grants him a place among the righteous and the faithful," he said.

Johari said that Daim served as a senator from 1980 to 1982, before being elected as MP for Kuala Muda and Merbok from 1982 to 2003. He then asked Muslim MPs to offer prayers, while other MPs observed a minute of silence.

Daim, a former finance minister, passed away this morning at the age of 86. It is understood he was receiving treatment in hospital at the time of his passing.
