KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2,000 Muslims from around the country gathered for the 'Himpunan Kebangkitan Ummah' rally at the Sultan Sulaiman Club field in Kampung Baru here, this morning.

The participants represented various non-governmental organisations, including the Malaysian Muslim Consumers' Association (PPIM), Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia

(Isma) and Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa (Perkasa).

The assembly was organised as a protest against any quarter questioning the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V; and to reject the proposed recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

The gathering was themed 'Malaysia Baru Pasca PRU-14: Islam Melayu Terancam' (New Malaysia post-14th general election: Malay Islam under threat).

The organisers kicked off the event by leading the crowd in a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a chant of 'Allahu Akbar'.
