Conspiracy to block Anwar from becoming PM? Prove it, says Dr M

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will not interfere in matters pertaining to other political parties.

He said this today to a suggestion that he and the Council of Eminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin were allegedly involved in a conspiracy to prevent PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming Prime Minister.

Dr Mahathir said the person who made allegation should prove it.

“It’s a nice allegation, the person should prove it. I have never talked to anyone about this thing...I stay away.. I have no business in other parties’ (affairs),” he said during a press conference after attending a Special Cabinet Committee Meeting on Corruption

It was reported that Kapar member of parliament Abdullah Sani said Anwar would face problems taking over the premiership from Dr Mahathir if Rafizi Ramli was unsuccessful in unseating Mohamed Azmin Ali as PKR deputy president in the coming party polls.

He was also quoted as saying that several parties who had wronged Anwar previously were again conspiring to deny him the Prime Ministership and that Daim had a role in this.

Before the 14th general election,Pakatan Harapan leaders had agreed that Dr Mahathir would be made the prime minister if the coalition won the general election.

It was also agreed that Anwar, who recently won the PKR presidency unopposed, would take over the post from Dr Mahathir.
