Steven Sim to forward truckers' proposals to Transport Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong today said he will help bring forward the 20 proposals on the welfare of truck and lorry drivers for the government's consideration.

He said although the matter did not fall under his ministry's purview, he would champion the cause as he believed that heavy vehicle drivers were "prime movers" of Malaysia’s economy.

“I will help forward it to the other ministry (Transport) because (truck and lorry) drivers are an important component of the nation’s economy.

“Without them, products or cargoes will not go anywhere.

“Who will move the goods around without the contribution from these drivers towards the country’s economy.

“This makes them strategic partners in driving the new Malaysia forward,” he said, at the sideline of the launch of #Pakatan Pemandu (Truckers’ Coalition) at Bukit Jalil Stadium here today.

The proposal for Truckers Day be celebrated on Aug 26 is among 20 suggestions contained in a memorandum to be handed over to the Transport Ministry and the Federal Territories Ministry.
