Economic Sabotage Act to stem profiteering from sale of APs and contracts - Azmin Ali

KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed drafting of an economic sabotage bill is a major step to stem profiteering from the sale of approved permits (APs) and contracts.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the proposal which was raised by National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC) head Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed at the Congress on Future of Bumiputera and the Nation 2018 today, would be looked into by the cabinet.

Azmin said the drafting of the bill was in line with punitive measures against "Ali Baba" businesses which go against the government contract policies.

"Any contract awarded by the government should not be transferred of their respective rights to other parties.

"We are in the midst of discussing with the relevant authorities to draft the economic sabotage bill," Azmin told a press conference later.
