MCA's Tan Chee Teong accepts defeat in Balakong

BALAKONG: MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong has conceded defeat to Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Wong Siew Ki in the Balakong by-election.

“I’m okay. It’s normal. I have fulfilled everything I carried out throughout the 21 days of the campaigning period,” he said at his party’s operations centre, here, tonight.

“This experience will be a stepping stone for me in my next political journey.

“Although I lost my deposit, I’m still okay and I’m accepting the defeat.”

Wong won with a majority of 18,533. She secured 22,508 votes, while Tan garnered 3,975 votes.

Tan said he would act as an opinion leader and point out what was right or wrong for the people of Balakong.

He congratulated Wong and wished her all the best in her journey in serving her constituents.

“I hope there will be no more U-turns by Pakatan after this and I hope that she will do even more for the people of Balakong.”

Tan was accompanied by his family members and supporters.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, who was present to show his support, was mum when he was asked to comment on the results.

He said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was expected to hold a press conference tomorrow.
