GEORGE TOWN: After much criticism, the draft copy of the Penang Structure Plan (PSP) 2030, which provides the policy framework and guidelines for spatial planning and physical development for the state until 2030, was unveiled today.
The previous PSP 2020 was gazetted way back in 2007.
The PSP, dubbed the “mother of all plans“, is renewed every five years. However, critics had spoken out on the delay by the state government in coming out with the next structure plan, which was due in 2012.
State Local Government, Housing Development and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, who said that the PSP 2030 draft had been long delayed, gave his assurance that the state government would certainly implement it this time around.
“We do not want a rush job. We want a document of quality and the fact that we are here today is proof that we are committed to proceed with it,” he said after the launch of the public display in Komtar here today.
He represented Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in launching the public display.
Jagdeep said although the law provided for the public display to run for only a month, the state government decided to extend it to two months instead.
“As such, we urge all Penangites to come forward to provide their feedback, views, suggestions, improvements or even criticisms of the draft copy.
“This is because the PSP 2030 will not only affect your future but your children’s future as well,” he added, adding that all feedback, views, suggestions, improvements or even criticisms will be collated, scrutinised and might be included into the PSP 2030 draft upon the closing date of feedback submission.
The PSP 2030 draft will be on public display in Komtar and the Penang Island City Council concourse on the island and at the Seberang Prai Municipal Council concourse on the mainland. It will also be available online.
The people can also upload the PSP 2030 application via the Google Play Store.
