Deputy IGP: Decision on IPCMC in line with police's plan to enhance integrity

KUALA LUMPUR: The government's decision to strengthen the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) by turning it into Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) is in line with the force's goal to enhance integrity among its personnel.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police welcomed any decision from the government that would benefit the people.

"We are all for such a move that will give everyone equal justice including police personnel, society and the stakeholders.

"I view the set up of the commission as an opportunity for the force to deliver the best services to the public," he said after the closing ceremony of the IGP Cup Futsal Championship in Setapak today.

Noor Rashid said he hoped the commission would also ensure that the level of competency among police personnel would be enhanced.

“It is all related to the services provided by the force and to ensure that justice is served to all concerned parties.” he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, after the special committee meeting on anti-corruption, said the government had agreed to empower EAIC by turning it into IPCMC.

He said the commission would act as an independent monitoring body that is more holistic in terms of investigating complaints.

EAIC was set up in 2011 to, among others, make sure personnel of the 21 enforcement agencies under its purview discharge their duties in accordance with the law.

However, it has limited power in terms of meting out appropriate punishments.
