KUALA LUMPUR: The Terengganu state government will speed up measures to issue guidelines to regulate entertainment activities on tourist islands in the state.
Its Menteri Besar, Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the guidelines were being drawn up and would be issued by early next year at the latest.
Äs entry to the islands in Terengganu would be fully closed from October until early January because of the monsoon season, we will take the opportunity to use the period to issue the guidelines in ensuring that the incident that occurred recently did not recur,”he said.
He told this to reporters after launching the ‘Tren ETS Berpaparan Beautiful Terengganu Malaysia’ (ETS Trains Showing Beautiful Terengganu Malaysia) at KL Sentral, here today.
He was commenting on the 10 individuals, including three women, who were detained by the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) while they were engrossed in enjoying their liquor at two entertainment centres on Pulau Perhentian, Besut, Terengganu, on Tuesday.
Samsuri said the state government did not prevent visitors from indulging in entertainment activities on the island visited but they must observe the manners and regulations adhered to in order to preserve harmony among other visitors.
Meanwhile, the cooperation between the state government and the Malayan Railways (KTM) would boost the entry of tourists into Terengganu.
Samsuri said that as a start, only one set of the Perkhidmatan Tren Eletrik (ETS) would demonstrate in a creative manner the destination and tourism product image through the brand ‘Beautiful Terengganu’ for one year.
“With the number of passengers at 10,695 people a day and the average monthly passengers totalling 324,635 for the Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Butterworth, Padang Besar and Gemas routes this could make the move aqs the most effective in promoting tourism in Terengganu.
“In fact, the introduction two products that are the pride of the state, nasi dagang dan keropok lekor in the ETS cafe will boost the Terengganu products in the state,” he added. - BERNAMA
