KUALA LUMPUR: The family members of the 22-year-old autistic man Ahmad Ziqri Morshidi, who was arrested after being accused of molesting a woman in Subang Jaya, said they were willing to meet with the victim and her family.
“We appreciate that they want to meet us to discuss the case. I am happy to know that, but I will first seek advice from my lawyer,” said Ziqri’s mother, Datin Hasnah Abd Rahman, when contacted today.
Hasnah was responding to the victim’s request who had asked Ziqri’s family members to not use social media but to take initiative to hold a meeting with her. Hasnah said the victim had yet to contact her on when to have the meeting.
Asked whether she would initiate the meeting instead, she said: “It’s better be done via our lawyers. Unless the court is not charging Ziqri or the victim has withdrawn her report, it is still a police case and any communication should be handled with our lawyers present or with their knowledge and direction,” she said.
She also added that it was advisable that Ziqri to be excluded from the meeting should they are allowed to meet.
“Ziqri wouldn’t understand and would be very confused. He may think that the woman is a friend as they had met a few times. We don’t want any untoward incident to happen,” she explained.
On Wednesday, Hasnah had pleaded with the woman to retract the police report against Ziqri. Hasnah said she had yet to receive any information on the matter from her lawyer.
On Sept 11, Ahmad Ziqri was arrested after a police report was lodged against him by a 24-year-old woman, who had claimed that he had touched her breasts.
The incident occurred when Ahmad Ziqri was with his family celebrating his birthday at a restaurant in Subang Jaya.
Just before the incident, Ahmad Ziqri had dashed out of the restaurant to several nearby shops. He allegedly touched the victim’s breasts.
The incident drew widespread media attention and went viral on social media.
