Watch: Zahid's granddaughter issues defiant message to opponents

KUALA LUMPUR: Although just 9 years old, embattled Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s granddaughter Sofee can certainly make an impression.

In a 28-second video clip posted on her mother Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid’s Instagram account on Oct 19, Sofee delivers a strikingly emphatic message on the Umno president’s precarious situation.

While unflinchingly facing the camera of a mobile phone held by a fellow occupant of a moving motor vehicle, the girl declares: “You can lock my grandpa up, but not his soul and his fighting spirit. We are his family and we’ll never stop praying for him. I will make your life un-peaceful (sic). I will make you regret your life. Remember – I am only 9-years-old and I am my country’s future.”

The fiery address has chalked up over 75,000 views as of Saturday night, but comments have been disallowed for the post, despite Nurulhidayah’s 221,000 presumably sympathetic followers.

However, in spite of the fighting words, Sofee’s tone is measured and her delivery halting – halfway through her monologue she even pauses to scratch her neck and exhale slowly, as if to calm her nerves.

The jury is out on whether she had been coached.

The post is accompanied by no caption, with the exception of #solidarityforgrandpa and #beranikeranabenar.

Sofee’s missive is the latest in a series of Instagram posts by Nurulhidayah who is rallying support for her father after he was slapped with 45 charges of criminal breach of trust, graft and money laundering involving RM114 million on Friday.
