KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said he had been summoned over 12 times by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) land controversy.
The former federal territories minister said that he had informed MACC all that he knew over the issue.
"Firstly to all Yang Berhormat in the Dewan Rakyat, in regards to the land problems in 2013, I had returned the land to the Prime Minister's Department. I have nothing to do with the approvals of land in the Federal Territory.
"Many said that I was not called by MACC. In reality, I have been called over 12 times (by MACC). I have given my statement on what I know," he said at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Tengku Adnan (BN-Putrajaya) was responding to Tan Kok Wai's (PH-Cheras) statement that the land deal controversy in areas within the capital here had caused great loss to the people and that those behind it should be charged.
Tan had raised a supplementary question to Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad over the number of such land deals.
A special task force had been probing 97 dubious transactions of 675.27 acres of DBKL land worth RM5.63 billion.
Earlier today, things turned heated when Tengku Adnan, in response to Tan, challenged him to repeat the allegation outside the Dewan Rakyat.
Tengku Adnan said he would not hesitate to sue Tan if the latter repeats the allegation outside Parliament.
This elicited an angry response from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), who demanded Tengku Adnan to just state his supplementary question.
When loud protests erupted from the opposition bench, Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon was forced to mute the microphones of MPs to de-escalate the situation.
Meanwhile when met at the Parliament lobby, Khalid said 70 per cent of the 97 questionable deals involving City Hall land had been transacted during his predecessor Tengku Adnan’s tenure.
“The Kuala Lumpur City 2020 draft plan which will be gazetted in mid-November will detail all land use in the city limits wrongful or otherwise through its addendum,” he added.
He however said that his hands were tied as far as revealing full details to the public on how some of the plots were sold off below market price as the matter was now being investigated by the MACC.
He said this while referring to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) calls to the ministry to reveal the outcome of its task force’s investigation on the dubious deals.
Earlier this year, Lim Lip Eng who was then Segambut MP lodged a report with MACC and the police on 64 transactions on DBKL land which his searches had found dubious.
Khalid claimed that the culture of using the ministry's welfare arm Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan as a front for UMNO dealings and even election campaign was also a legacy problem, not restricted to Tengku Adnan’s time.
