KUALA LUMPUR: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has approved an application to register Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement on the political coalition was greeted by applause from Sarawak-based lawmakers at Dewan Rakyat this afternoon.
He was answering a question from Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi (PBB-Kapit) during his wrapping-up speech on Budget 2019.
Alexander had wanted to know the status of the application, which was made more than three months ago.
GPS comprises Sarawak-based parties that left Barisan Nasional after the 14th General Election.
“The application to register GPS has been approved. The letter (officially confirming the acceptance of the application) will be issued within the next day or two, Insyaallah (Allah willing),” Muhyiddin said.
Responding to a question from Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazal (Independent-Bagan Serai) on cigaratte smuggling, Muhyiddin said efforts made by the Malaysian Border Security Agency to curb the activity were bearing fruit.
He said the total value of contraband cigarettes seized had decreased from RM12.8 million in 2016 to RM12.5 million last year and RM4.9 million as of October this year.
