Works minister offers sympathies, urges calm over Masjid India sinkhole

KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi expressed his deep concern over a sinkhole incident that occurred near Masjid India earlier today.

In a statement on Facebook, the minister offered his heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the unexpected event. He urged the public to "remain calm and allow the responsible authorities to take immediate and appropriate action to ensure everyone's safety".

"The public should also follow any instructions issued by the authorities," he added.

Earlier, it was reported that search and rescue operations have been intensified for the Indian national woman who fell into the sinkhole.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call on the incident at 8.22am.

The sinkhole, located near the Malayan Mansion on Jalan Masjid India, is estimated to be eight meters deep.
