It was an old photo, says Tok Mat

SEREMBAN: A photo of several top Umno leaders with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that is being shared on social media since last night was taken in September.

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the meeting had nothing to do with rumours that more party leaders and parliamentarians will leave Umno.

He said the picture was taken three months ago when several Umno leaders, including himself, met Dr Mahathir to prevent a move to declare Umno illegal.

"The photo has nothing to do with Sabah MPs leaving the party. It is an old photo, if I'm not mistaken, it was in early September.

"Our meeting was to ask Tun (Mahathir) not to disband Umno as there had been efforts to do so before that," he told NSTP, today.

Mohamad or Tok Mat as he is more commonly known as stated that he would not betray Umno, especially at a time when they were now left with 43 MPs after 11 quit the party.

"I will not leave Umno. The old meeting also did not discuss who would leave Umno," he added.

Seen with Dr Mahathir in the photo besides Tok Mat are Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar, former Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
