Kelantan to hold official welcome home ceremony for Sultan Muhammad V

KOTA BARU: Kelantan will hold an official welcoming back ceremony for former Yang DiPertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V once the Ruler gives his consent.

However, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the state had yet to receive confirmation on when the Ruler intended to return.

He said the state had nevertheless prepared for the welcoming ceremony to be held anytime.

“I cannot predict when it will be held as we have not received any indication on when the Sultan will be back.

“However, all matters concerning the palace and the state government are being handled by Menteri Besar, Datuk Ahmad Yakob and the State Secretary Datuk Nazran Muhammad,” he said.

Mohd Amar said all matters concerning the official welcoming ceremony must be consented by the Ruler first.

The Kelantan ruler resigned as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier this week.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Palace announced that Sultan Muhammad V resigned as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong effective Jan 6 in accordance to Article 32(3) of the Federal Constitution.

Article 32(3) states: "The Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall be elected by the Conference of Rulers for a term of five years, but may at any time resign his office by writing under his hand addressed to the Conference of Rulers or be removed from office by the Conference of Rulers, and shall cease to hold office on ceasing to be a ruler".

He was elected as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 13, 2016.
