Sultan Abdullah fights back tears recalling the contribution of his father

PEKAN: Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, struggles to control his emotions as he recalled the contribution made by his father Sultan Ahmad Shah towards the development of the state.

Sultan Abdullah was seen fighting back tears when he called on the people to offer prayers for the health and wellbeing of Sultan Ahmad Shah.

At this juncture, the Sultan, who was choked with emotions, had to pause several times before continuing with his speech during the proclamation ceremony at Istana Abu Bakar, here.

Sultan Abdullah acknowledged that he was inheriting the throne from his father whom he described as just, virtuous as well as loved and respected by people from all walks of life.

“A legacy, which is celebrated and unmatched.

“I appeal to all people in the state to pray to Allah SWT to protect my father and for his wellbeing. Please also extend your prayers to my late mother (Tengku Ampuan Afzan Tengku Muhammad).

“She had taught me with full kindness and love. There was never a time that she complained or displayed even the slightest hint of anger.”

The Sultan’s consort, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, was also seen wiping her tears as Sultan Abdullah called on the people to pray for his father.

On Jan 12, Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah announced that Sultan Abdullah, effective immediately, has been proclaimed as the sixth Sultan of Pahang succeeding his father.

Sultan Ahmad Shah, 88, is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.
