KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will leave it to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to decide on the appeal by the People’s Progressive Party (myPPP) against the cancellation of its registration.
“It was RoS’ decision, I’ll leave it to the RoS...I am not involved because should there be an appeal, if there is a basis, or need for reconsideration, it will be up to RoS to decide, not me,” he said after launching a book written by Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, titled ‘May 9 2018 Notes From The Frontline’, at a mall here today.
He was commenting on a statement by Tan Sri M. Kayveas, who said he had asking that RoS take appropriate action regarding his appeal on the cancellation of MyPPP’s registration.
Kayveas had said that he submitted the appeal to Muhyiddin through the RoS on Jan 15, a day after MyPPP’s registration was cancelled.
On the March 2 Semenyih state by-election, Muhyiddin, who is also the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, said they had received the names of several candidates from the Hulu Langat Division and Selangor Bersatu.
He said the candidates’ names would be referred to Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for a final decision.
“We will field a candidate who is eligible, highly-qualified and acceptable to the community...but it is still too early to announce the candidate,” he said.
The nomination for the by-election is on Feb 16.
It is being held following the death of the assemblyman, Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, 57, on Jan 11 of a heart attack.
In the 14th General Election last May, Bakhtiar, of Bersatu, polled 23,428 votes to defeat Datuk Johan Abd Aziz (Barisan Nasional), Mad Shahmidur Mat Kosim (PAS) and S. Arutchelvan (PSM) with an 8,964 majority.-- Bernama
