KUALA LUMPUR: Housing and Local Government Ministry is targeting to build 1 million units of affordable homes for the B40 group within the next 10 years.
It’s Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the aim is to build 100,000 units each year continuously, to enable more people, especially low income earners, to be house owners.
At the launch of National Housing Policy 2018-2025 here today, Zuraida said the ministry has outlined five core focuses, 16 strategies and 57 action plans towards better housing facilities nationwide.
The five focuses include improving accessibility and affordability; quality housing for all; cohesive neighbourhood; improving coordination between housing development and transportation; and strengthening institutional relations for the National Housing Policy.
She said the move was in line with the pledge Pakatan Harapan made in its election manifesto last year.
With the new policies in place, she said chances for abuse and misuse would be minimal as the homes could not simply be bought or sold off.
“The ministry has several new policies drawn up for buyers and developers, which can be used as a guideline for both parties starting this year." she said.
Meanwhile, Zuraida said the ministry would help promote the RM22.5 billion worth of unsold homes, mostly priced below RM300,000, at a property expo in March.
“These unsold properties will offer great deals including discounts from at least 10 per cent.
"This expo will be a good platform for buyers especially the B40 group to look for homes,” she said after witnessing a MoU signing ceremony between the ministry and two private developers, Pembinaan Kesy Sdn Bhd and Tisy Sdn Bhd to build 2,200 affordable homes, priced between RM95,000 to RM300,000 each.
”Kesy will be responsible for a mixed development project on a 300-acre land in Rawang while Tisy will build 400 youth transit homes on a 2.9-acre of land in Kepong.”
Zuraida said.
