Family appeals for help to bring home student injured in accident in Australia

KUANTAN: A student’s intention to earn money as a part-time labourer turned into a nightmare after he fell from a height of six metres while working in Sydney, Australia on Jan 17.

Meor Muhammad Mustaqim Meor Ahmad Hussin, 28, a hospitality management student at Pacific Training Group (PTG) there, is currently undergoing treatment at St George Hospital in Kogorah, Sydney.

According to his brother Meor Ahmad Azizul Hakim, 31, his younger brother who is the ninth of 11 siblings and hails from Kampung Pelindung Maju, Beserah, is understood to have suffered serious injuries in his pelvis due to the incident.

“Our family was told that my brother was in a coma for two days after the fall, and we only knew about the incident two days later. We learned that he had undergone an operation to fix screws in his pelvis area.

“The estimated cost is AUD 10,000 which is equivalent to RM32,000. So far we managed to raise RM22,000, but we still need another of RM10,000,” he told Bernama.

He said their family is now raising funds to cover the medical costs and other costs to bring his brother home as soon as possible.

He added that he will be leaving for Sydney tomorrow to see his brother’s condition although the funds needed to pay for the treatment and to bring him home was still inadequate.

“It is our great hope to bring him back the soonest as the cost of treatment will increase if he stays there.

“His study needs to be deferred for the time being. If we manage to bring him home, he will be taken to the Melaka Hospital to make it easier for our sister to care for him,” he said.
