Two cousins drown at Ipoh's Silibin waterfall

IPOH: Two young men who went missing while swimming at the Silibin waterfall near the Silibin Industrial Park here were found drowned on Friday night.

The victims were identified as K Guganeswaran, 24 and his cousin, V Vikneshawaran, 20.

They were discovered two metres underwater by members of a search and rescue (SAR) team at 7.30pm.

However, retrieving the bodies proved to be difficult for the rescuers, as the area surrounding the waterfall is steep.

The SAR operation only ended at 12.05am today.

It is understood that the two cousins were enjoying a picnic with seven other family members near the waterfall, which is a popular recreational site.

Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Department chief Sharudi Muhamad Halil said they received an emergency call on the incident at 4.36pm.

“The remains were transported to our rescue operations centre, before being handed over to the police for further action,” he added.

The bodies were later sent to the Forensic Unit of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post mortems.
