Airport worker in critical condition after aircraft collision

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) personnel is in critical condition after a private aircraft collided with an airport engineering vehicle.

The accident took place at the runway of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, near here, at 3.20am.

“We are saddened to inform that our staff who was the driver of the vehicle was critically injured.

“The staff is currently undergoing surgery and we are ensuring that he receives the best medical care, as we pray for his recovery, “ MAHB said in a statement.

It said the incident was first reported to the Airport Fire and Rescue Service team which arrived at the scene at 3.21am for the rescue.

The passengers and cabin crew of the aircraft were safe and unharmed, MAHB said.

The airport operator said that some flight arrivals were affected as they were held back at the airport of origin during the process of clearing the debris on the runway resulting from the accident.

The statement said that the flight operations resumed to normal at 9am.

“In the meantime, Malaysia Airport has formed an investigation team and is working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to investigate the root cause of the accident.

“The Ministry of Transport has also activated its ‘Bahagian Siasatan Kemalangan Udara’ (BSKU) to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident,” it said.
