KANGAR: The official car of Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin was set on fire by unidentified arsonists at his home at Jalan Persiaran Wawasan, Kangar, this morning.
Perlis police chief Datuk Noor Mushar Mohd said his department received an emergency call from Mohd Asri's home at about 6.05am.
"The police, together with a team of firefighters, rushed to his residence and found a Honda Accord 1.6L in flames.
"The fire was eventually put out, but the car was badly damaged, (especially) the engine compartment, front and rear windshields, and front tyres.
"The police have not ruled out the possibility of arson, because the front and rear windshields were found smashed by (Molotov cocktail) bottles," he said when contacted today.
Noor Mushar said his department is currently investigating the incident.
"The police have obtained relevant information from Mohd Asri and further investigations are underway,” he added.
