Keluar Sekejap proposes dialogue on Mufti Bill between Perlis Mufti, minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The popular podcast hosted by former Umno leaders, Keluar Sekejap, has proposed a dialogue on the controversial Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024, featuring the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.

In a Facebook post, Asri shared an invitation from former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, the podcast host, to discuss the bill next Monday.

Asri confirmed his attendance, saying, "God willing, I will attend. I believe the minister (Na'im) will also be present."

The New Straits Times has reached out to Na'im for confirmation of the invitation and his willingness to participate.

Earlier this month, Asri appeared on the podcast co-hosted by Khairy and former Umno vice-chief Shahril Hamdan.

Last week, Asri invited Na'im to engage in a dialogue regarding the bill, suggesting it be held on a government media platform to allow the public to evaluate the minister's effectiveness in overseeing Islamic affairs.

Na'im acknowledged Asri's perspective, saying he respected differing opinions.

Previously, Asri criticised the bill, claiming it restricted freedom of thought and academic freedom under the guise of religion.
