PUTRAJAYA: Customs’ deputy director-general (GST), Datuk Paddy Abd Halim, has been appointed its new director-general.
In a statement, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the appointment is effective April 1.
Paddy takes over from Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy, who completed his term on March 9.
Lim said Paddy has vast experience in the civil service, starting with his career as customs superintendent at the Perak Customs Department in 1983.
"He also served in various branches and divisions of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (JKDM) and headquarters, before being appointed as director, Compliance Management Division, in 2011.
"On July 15, 2016, he was promoted as assistant director general of Customs (Enforcement); and on July 1, 2017, he was given the responsibility of the post of deputy director general of Customs (GST)," he said.
Lim also took the opportunity to express his highest appreciation to Subromaniam for his excellent contribution and service.
