Semporna divers group demands action against diving instructor over molest claim

SEMPORNA: Semporna Professional Divers Association has demanded necessary actions to be taken against a diving instructor who allegedly molested two tourists from China last month.

Its chairman Abdul Razak Ismail said actions taken against him would act as a deterrent and prevent recurrence in the future.

He confirmed the man, who was accused of committing the offence, was not a member of the association.

The two women, from Shenzhou, had claimed that their instructor had touched sensitive parts of their bodies during a dive session.

“We have lodged a police report last night following media reports on misconduct among dive master or instructor towards tourists.

“This is also to retain the good reputation and image of professional divers especially from Semporna,” he said when contacted.

Abdul Razak, who is also a professional underwater photographer, added that the association had also submitted an official report to Sabah Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) for further action.

Meanwhile, Sabah Motac director Ag Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar said the ministry had received the letter and was investigating the case.

“If the evidence showed that the case really happened, we will forward it to relevant authority, which issued the dive master licence.

“It is most likely that his licence will be revoked.” he added.
