THE UKM Specialist Centre (UKMSC) aspires to become the premier provider of healthcare treatment services in the country.
Located in Kuala Lumpur, UKMSC has carved its reputation for being a centre of choice for patients with over 120 consultants and doctors in different fields and sub-specialities.
UKMSC is located on the 7th floor of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (HCTM) Cheras, formerly known as UKM Hospital (HUKM).
Since its inception in 2003, UKMSC has treated and assisted thousand of patients with many types of diseases for various age groups and nationalities.
UKM Kesihatan Sdn Bhd (UKM Kesihatan) Acting Chief Executive Officer Haliza Yunus said the centre was formerly known as Kompleks Rawatan Khas in UKM Hospital, before it was named as UKMSC in 1999.
“After it was established, UKMSC now runs as a private entity and wholly-owned by UKM Kesihatan, a subsidiary of UKM Holdings,” she said.
SPECIFIC EXPERTISE IN MEDICAL TREATMENT
UKMSC offers a wide range of specialised treatments. Different therapeutic areas at UKMSC include Surgery (Morbid Obesity, Colorectal, Endocrine and Breast, Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery, Orthopaedic (Spine Surgery, Arthroplasty), Women Healthcare (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Internal Medicine, Otorhynolarynology (ENT), Specialised Anaesthesia, Oral and Maxillofacial, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Gamma Knife.
UKMSC Medical Director Datuk Dr Ismail Sagap said the number of specialists and consultants at UKMSC has grown from 30 to over 120 to date.
“All the treatments performed here are carried out by skilled and experienced experts in their respective fields and they always provide the best service by using the latest treatment methods from time to time,” he said.

He further said in order to continue providing up-to-date efficient treatments, UKMSC has planned to build a Medical Centre of Excellence (COE) within itself in the field of Gastrointestinal Diseases Treatment, Women Health, Morbid Obesity Treatment, as well as Spine and Arthroplasty.
“We are confident to provide affordable cutting edge medical facilities in the near future through these COEs,” he said.
With a depth of expertise consisting of more than 120 super-specialised experts, the centre is eyeing to be an ecosystem with the most extensive spectrum of specialities and innovative medical equipment.
“To cater to the growing number of patients, a new hospital building will be built, which is currently in the planning stage,” he said.
The latest specialist treatment service to be offered here is treatment for brain disorders via the latest facility which is known as Gamma Knife technology in a new UKMSC Gamma Knife Centre.
The UKMSC Gamma Knife Centre will introduce a revolutionised stateof-the-art Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) machine, and is expected to start its operation in July this year.
“We will be offering this facility to patients with brain tumours and few other brain diseases via stereotactic radiosurgery without the need for open surgery,” he said.
“There are only few such machines available in our country and we are glad that UKMSC has one of these treatment service,” said Dr Ismail.
