LEADERS across Malaysia joined scores of Muslims in celebrating the arrival of Syawal, today.
In PENANG, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his consort Toh Puan Majimor Shariff performed the Aidilfitri prayer at the State Mosque in George Town.
The couple arrived at the mosque compound at 8.30am.
They were accompanied by State Secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman and Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.
They joined nearly 5,000 worshippers to perform the prayer, led by Imam Besar Mohd Nordin Samah.
Later, Abdul Rahman shook hands and exchanged Hari Raya wishes with congregants who had lined up to greet him.
Following the Aidilfitri prayer, many Muslims visited the graves of departed loved ones to pray for their souls.
In SELANGOR, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah joined thousands in performing the Aidilfitri prayer at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Bukit Jelutong.
Accompanying him were his consort Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah.
Also present was Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
In his Aidilfitri sermon, Selangor mufti Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abd Wahid urged Muslims to glorify Allah in celebrating the joyous occasion; and to celebrate Raya with piety.
In JOHOR, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar performed the Aidilfitri prayer alongside 1,000 worshippers at the Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar in Johor Baru.
The Sultan, who arrived at 8.30am, was accompanied by the Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail.
Also in attendance were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.
The ruler later mingled with congregants and exchanged Raya greetings.
The Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar, which is over a century old, had only just been reopened after two years of renovations.
In PERAK, 2,000 worshippers joined Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah in performing the Aidilfitri prayer at Masjid Ubudiah in Kuala Kangsar.
The Sultan, who arrived at 8.30am, was received by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Also in attendance were Raja Muda Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and Raja Dihilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.
Later, the Sultan visited the grave of his late father, Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, at Makam Diraja.
In KELANTAN Sultan Muhammad V performed the Aidiladha prayer at the Masjid Muhammadi in Kota Baru, alongside about 5,000 worshippers.
He was joined by Kelantan Regent Dr Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.
The Sultan later hosted an open house at the Istana Balai Besar, where he exchanged pleasantries with nearly 2,000 members of the public.
In MELAKA, 10,000 worshippers joined the Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Khalil Yaakob in performing the Aidilfitri prayer at the Masjid Al Azim in Bukit Palah.
The prayer was led by Grand Imam Datuk Mohammad Hashim, who also delivered the Raya sermon.
Mohd Khalil later hosted an open house at Istana Melaka. Those in attendance included Chief Minister Adly Zahari and state leaders.
In NEGRI SEMBILAN, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, performed the Aidilfitri prayer alongside 2,000 worshippers at the Masjid Diraja Tuanku Munawir at Seri Menanti.
He arrived at the mosque at 8.40am, accompanied by his wife Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud and their sons, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin and Tunku Zain Al’Abidin.
The Aidilfitri sermon was delivered by Executive Imam of the Royal Mosque Tuanku Munawir, who also led the prayer.
Also present was Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Tuanku Muhriz later exchanged Raya greetings with congregants.
In TERENGGANU, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin joined nearly 5,000 worshippers in performing the Aidilfitri prayer at the Masjid Al-Muktafi Billah Shah in Kuala Terengganu.
Sultan Mizan arrived at the mosque at 8.20am along with his son, Tengku Muhammad Mua'az.
They were accompanied by Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and state leaders.
The prayer was led by state Mufti Datuk Dr Zulkifly Muda.
Sultan Mizan later mingled with congregants and exchanged Raya greetings.
