KOTA BARU: Santubong PKR Youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz must be charged and put on trial after confessing to being one of the two men in homosexual sex video clips.
Pas vice-president and Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar said, in Islam, any person who had confessed to committing an offence against the law should be charged at either the syariah or civil courts.
“According to Islamic law, if a person has already admitted to an offence then he or she must go through the process of law in the form a trial and no witness is needed as the offender had confessed to the offence,” Amar said after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at JKR 10 here today.
He said those who refused to confess to the offence must also undergo a trial.
“This issue became complicated because only one person confessed to the act.
“We in Pas would not interfere because this involves the law and we can only urge the police to take action against the individuals involved.
“Pas’s stand was similar when it involved Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously and therefore, we will leave it to the authorities, especially the police, to investigate the case,” he said.
Last Tuesday, a WhatsApp group spread several video clips of two men having sex.
The following day, Haziq confessed that it was him in the video and alleged that the other person was Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Azmin has denied the allegations, saying that it was part of a plot to destroy his political career.
Police are investigating the case under Section 292 (sale of obscene material), 504 (intent to provoke beach of peace) and 377B (carnal intercourse against nature) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service, etc.
Police detained Haziq as he was waiting to board a plane to Manila. Haziq was later released on bail.
