KOTA BARU: Pas delayed the announcement of Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis joining the party due to technical factors.
Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said Jailani joined Pas before the Melaka State Legislative Assembly passed the anti-party hopping law last year.
"It is an old issue. A good development for Pas. He joined Pas a month before the (Melaka) anti-party hopping law was implemented.
"So there is no issue. We made the announcement late due to technical factors," Amar said today (July 17).
When asked whether more Umno assemblymen would join Pas, he said it would be good for Pas.
"Pas' door is always open to those who are interested to join."
Yesterday, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced that Jailani had joined the party in June last year.
He said Jailani's status as assemblyman would not be affected as the Melaka State Legislative Assembly had yet to implement the anti-party hopping law at the time.
