KUALA LUMPUR: A two-year-old girl died after sustaining severe injuries to her head from being hit by a ceiling fan.
The tragedy occurred when her 25-year-old cousin threw her up in the air afterwhich her head came into contact with the fan.
She died a day after being admitted to the Ampang Hospital where she was taken for treatment on Sunday.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Asst Comm Noor Azmi Yusoff said the incident happened at about 10pm on Sunday at a double-storey terrace house in Tasik Tambahan, Ampang.
The cousin was said to have thrown the girl, who was crying, up in the air while they were playing together.
"After the incident, the victim's mother and her uncle took her to the Ampang Hospital for treatment.
"The victim was pronounced dead at 10.57pm the following day by the hospital and her remains were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem," he said when contacted.
Noor Azmi informed that post-mortem results revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
He said the victim's father then lodged a police report afterwhich police detained the cousin at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters at 1.15pm yesterday.
"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and the suspect is remanded for seven days beginning today until next Tuesday," he said.
